An official document known as a study permit enables foreign nationals to enroll in classes at designated learning institutions (DLIs). A post-secondary educational facility with official authorization to enroll international students is known as a DLI. The list of DLIs across Canada can be found here.
You can check the official processing times via this link.
Note that not everyone is eligible to apply for a study visa from within Canada. You have to be in Canada and fit into one of the following categories:
An expedited study permit processing procedure called Student Direct Stream cuts the processing period down to 20 days. Students who are both legal citizens of Canada and one of the following nations may choose this option: Antigua and Barbuda, Brazil, China, Colombia, Costa Rica, India, Morocco, Pakistan, Peru, Philippines, Senegal, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Trinidad and Tobago, and Vietnam. To be eligible for an SDS program, you have to apply and provide the necessary paperwork upfront. In addition to meeting the residency requirements, SDS applicants need to submit the following:
The first step in the procedure is to receive an acceptance letter from one of the approved educational institutions. Generally speaking, the prerequisites to receive this document are as follows:
It is recommended by the Government of Canada that you apply for your study permit as soon as possible after receiving your admission letter. If you apply from outside of Canada, the application processing process can take up to 12 weeks; if you wait to apply, you may not be able to begin your studies.
The recommended way to apply for a study permit is to apply online. Use the official government website to submit your application, or use an authorized representative.
Thirty days before to the expiration of your student permit, you may apply for an extension of your study permission. Your study permit is essentially extended until a decision is made if it expired while your application for an extension is being reviewed. In this case, you will be permitted to carry on with your education and employment (either on or off campus, based on the conditions of your study permit). You are not permitted to leave Canada until your application for an extension has been decided upon; otherwise, your permission will immediately expire.
